All-on-4 Treatment Concept provided by and in Scarsdale, NY at

While we all want to retain our natural teeth up to old age, tooth loss can occur due to injury, tooth decay, or other oral and overall health complications.

After tooth loss, you should deal with the gap to restore your mouth to full functionality. One way to achieve this is with All-on-4 dental implants.

All on 4 is offered at both our Scarsdale, NY and Mount Kisco, NY locations.

At New York Oral, Maxillofacial, and Implant Surgery, we will help you understand All-on-4 dental implants and why you should consider them after tooth loss. They are a much stronger and oftentimes better alternative to other tooth replacement options out there, and for good reason.

What Is All-on-4?

Upon tooth loss or decay to a severe degree, you require restoration of your upper or lower dental arches.

The All-on-4 Treatment Concept is a solution to missing teeth that provides patients with a full arch prosthesis.

This concept utilizes the remnant in the jawbone, enabling the patient to resume normal mouth functions and saving them from the high costs of traditional dental implants.

The procedure utilizes four implants in the anterior of the jawbone to support the prosthesis. We will place these implants axially and the two posterior implants distally at an angle to reduce the cantilever length, allowing the application of the prostheses.

How Do All-on-4 Implants Work?

All-on-4 dental implants work by providing an anchor for your replacement teeth. Through the procedure, we will replace a full arch of your teeth with four dental implants.

We will support the implants with a denture or fixed bridge that we attach to your natural teeth.

What Are the Benefits of All-on-4?

All-on-4 dental implants come with several benefits for your oral health.

•  Longevity - Unlike dentures, All-on-4 implants give you a permanent set of teeth. With proper care, the implants will last a lifetime.
•  Improved Appearance - When you lose teeth, your jawbone loses density through resorption. This process will impact your facial structures and cause wrinkles, making you appear older. Getting All-on-4 implants restores your teeth functionality similar to natural teeth. You will put the necessary pressure on your jawbone to regenerate the bones, improving your appearance.
•  Good Overall Health - All-on-4 dental implants reduce the risk of periodontal disease. Given the link between periodontal and heart diseases, your overall health will improve with these implants if you are at high risk of periodontal diseases.
•  Easy Maintenance - All-on-4 dental implants also have reduced maintenance, especially if you are a denture wearer. Maintaining these implants require regular brushing and flossing combined with routine visits to our offices for exam and cleaning.
•  No Need for Bone Grafting - All-on-4 dental implants rely on the stronger bone at the front of your jaw. You will not need a bone graft if you have bone resorption. However, we will recommend a bone graft if your bone mass is below the minimum requirement.

How Long Does it Take to Get All-on-4 Dental Implants?

Getting All-on-4 dental implants is an outpatient procedure that can take a day to complete.

The duration of your procedure will depend on the plan our team recommends upon examination.

Usually, we will need a few hours to place the implants. While All-on-4 dental implants do not necessarily need a bone graft, some circumstances may force one, prolonging the treatment.

Am I a Candidate for All-on-4?

All-on-4 implants replace missing teeth and prevent bone resorption. If missing one or two teeth, a single dental implant is ideal, but if all of your teeth are missing, All-on-4 implants are ideal. You are also a perfect candidate for All-on-4 if you meet the following conditions:

•  Enough Jaw Mass - Your jawbone mass is critical for a successful implant. Unlike traditional implants, All-on-4 implants position the anterior and posterior implants axially and distally, utilizing their mass. This means less bone mass requirement. However, if you do not meet the minimum bone mass requirement, we will recommend a bone graft.
•  Good Oral and Overall Health - As an All-on-4 dental implant candidate, you should be free of gum disease and cavities to ensure the procedure's success. If you have untreated conditions like diabetes or are on antidepressants or radiotherapy, your implant success may be lower, and you should mention this to us.
•  Non-smoker - Smoking tobacco impacts oral health by causing mouth dryness. Tobacco will also slow your healing after surgery, affecting the implant's success rate.

How Do I Clean my All-on-4 Dental Implants?

Like your natural teeth, All-on-4 dental implants require cleaning after every meal. Neglecting oral hygiene will cause the debris to decompose and form plaque-attracting bacteria. This can attack the bone around the implant area and loosen the implant.

All-on-4 cleaning is the same as with your natural teeth. You should brush and floss after meals and rinse your mouth with antibacterial mouthwash. Routine visits to our office for cleaning will also maintain your implants in good shape by removing accumulated plaque.

What Can You Eat After All-on-4 Dental Implants?

The next days or weeks following your All-on-4 dental procedure requires careful diet selection for smooth healing. During the first two weeks, stick to liquids. To avoid burning your mouth, you should take cold liquids until the anesthesia effect subsides. Also, avoid straws, as the suction effect interferes with the clot, causing bleeding.

After two weeks, swelling and pain will reduce, and you can introduce soft foods. These foods include things like mashed potatoes, soft bread, and oatmeal. During this period, avoid chewy, hard, crunchy, and spicy foods as they compromise the healing process.
